Spain’s income tax (IRPF) is split into two parts: a state (national) component and a regional component set by each autonomous community. As a result, total tax can vary depending on where you live in Spain, even for the same salary.

At the state level, income is taxed in progressive brackets, starting at 19% on earnings up to €12,450, then increasing to 24%, 30%, 37%, and 45%, and reaching 47% on income above €300,000.

Regional tax rates vary by autonomous community and generally range from about 9.5% to 25.5%, depending on income level.

Taxes are applied to income after personal allowances and deductions, which vary based on factors such as marital status, dependents, and age. For the 2026 tax year, the basic personal allowance (mínimo personal) in Spain is generally €5,550 per year for taxpayers under 65.
